MATRESCENCE
INDIA

Understanding, supporting, and celebrating the profound internal shifts of motherhood with the credibility of science and power of lived experiences.

What is Matrescence?

Matrescence is the profound transformation a woman undergoes to become a mother, encompassing significant physical, psychological, emotional, and social changes. Coined in the 1970s, it's a normal developmental stage similar to adolescence, involving the emergence of a new identity and connection to the world. The term acknowledges the complex journey beyond childbirth, highlighting the need for greater societal understanding and support for new mothers.

Vision & Mission

Vision: To build a society where every woman navigating early motherhood feels seen, supported, and empowered.

Mission: Matrescence India offers compassionate, timely, and evidence-based support to ensure no mother feels alone, unprepared, or invisible. We offer tools, guidance, and human connections to help mothers and their partners prepare, cope, and grow through pregnancy, the fourth trimester, and beyond.

About Me

Natasha Uppal

Hi, I'm Natasha Uppal—sociologist, mother, social impact practitioner, and India's first Mama Rising® Facilitator and Matrescence Coach (in training). When I became a mother, I saw the vast gap between our lived realities and the support offered. That gap drives me to champion matrescence. I help you name, normalise, and navigate the profound changes of motherhood by bridging research and real life in a space where science and stories meet.

Our Advisors

We are proud to be guided by a team of experts and advocates who are passionate about maternal wellbeing.
